History/Biographical Beryl Ward was born in Sapperton in 1898. She was a great-granddaughter of Robert Hume, one of the Royal Engineers who arrived in British Columbia in 1859. She attended the Sir Richard McBride School. Around 1913 she began working at B.C. Telephone as an operator. By 1926 she was chief operator, a position she held until her retirement in 1963. She died in 1994.
Custodial History Donated by Irene Graham in 1994 and 1995.
Scope & Content Fonds consists of a number of photographs, a handwritten four page guide explaining the operation of the telephone switchboard, several school diplomas, a scrapbook that contains photographs and cards of congratulations on Beryl Ward's ninetieth birthday, and several newspaper clippings.
