| Scope & Content |
Photograph shows the stands and floor of the Arena. According to the book "Development of Parks and Recreation in New Westminster" R711.558 N42d, in 1938 an additional 80,000 dollars was spent to enlarge and make improvements to the Arena.
The donor of the photo's grandfather was William M. Mott of Mott Electric and was originally the owner of this photo. It is probable that Mott Electric Co. installed the lighting in the Arena.
William Mott was also Mayor of New Westminster from 1943-1948.
According to Mott's obituary in the Columbian November 27,1 961. Mott and Oscar Swanson successfully campaigned for ice to be installed in the Arena which was formerly used almost exclusively for basketball. Once there were skating facilities Mott formed minor hockey teams and coached them. |
