Photograph shows a view looking up the hill to the penitentiary. This photograph was an entrant in the "photograph today for tomorrow" photography contest held by the New Westminster Public Library from May 15 - June 30, 1984. This contest was held to celebrate New Westminster's 125th anniversary. The title of the photograph is "penitentiary bars". The B.C. Penitentiary opened in 1878 and closed on May 10, 1980, at which time tours were conducted. |
