| Scope & Content |
Photograph shows an Aerial view of the Queensborough Bridge - looking north towards New Westminster. Judging from the absence of cars, this photo looks like it was taken on the bridge's opening day. The 4 million dollar bridge's official opening took place on August 26, 1960. The new bridge was designed by Phillips, Barratt & Partners, Vancouver. The general contractor was John Laing and Son (Canada) Ltd. The bridge was 3,000 feet long and 60 feet wide, and had four traffic lanes (Journal of Commerce Weekly, August 27, 1960, article kept in VF NW - Bridges - Queensborough). Note the tolls on the bridge which are visibile in the photograph were not removed until November 19, 1966, see p.1 of the Columbian newspaper on this date.
