This collection represents the outcome of a community initiative which included the submission of photographs by Queensborough residents to the Queensborough Community Centre. These photos were copied and returned and used in displays at the Centre. The archives has in its custody, not the photos themselves, but copies in the form of negatives and slides. Many of the slides have accompanying captions which are in the transcription field of the database record. These captions were used during slide shows. The collection includes almost 700 photos. A number of the descriptions of the photographs are not complete but the missing information will be added at a subsequent date.

The origin of this collection arose in this manner. Using an earlier database, staff of the museum and archives wrote brief descriptions of all photographs. However, at that time, there was no database for storing descriptions of fonds or collections. Thus any photographs that were part of a fonds or a collection were not linked together. Several years ago, a new database was installed and all the descriptions of photographs were copied to the new database. The new database now stores both descriptions of photographs as well as descriptions of fonds and collections. Thus, a search of the database that retrieves a specific fonds or collection description can now retrieve any descriptions for the photographs attached to it. |

Collection consists of all photographs that for one reason or another are not attached to a specific fonds or collection. Any photographs not in this collection will be found by searching specific fonds or collections. This general collection contains many more photographs than are currently available in this database. The estimated number of 10,000 represents the current estimate of the total number of photographs. The current number of descriptions in this collection is significantly less. More descriptions of photographs will be added to this collection as they are completed. |
